NIQAB

As-salamu alaykum Sheikh, I am a 20 year-old university student seeking your guidance on a matter regarding the niqab, which I started wearing in my first semester when I was 19, believing it is recommended (mustahabb). I am now in my third semester and considering removing it while strictly maintaining my full hijab, but I am struggling with my decision due to several complex factors: Environment & Influence: In high school, I saw classmates wearing it and found it beautiful. At university, the women I live with wear it outside but not at home. I too wear it only if am going outside, not at home. And non mahram men can come freely at our extended family home. While I checked my intentions before starting, I realize these social environments subconsciously motivated me to wear it. Physical Suffocation: It is physically restricting my ability to speak. Once in class, while sharing my opinion, I was gasping for air and the fabric kept entering my mouth. I had to hold it down with my hand just to finish speaking. Identity & Opportunities: I feel I have lost my true self. I feel it is restricting my ability to be outgoing and pursue university workshops, summits, and career opportunities. I subconsciously fear being dismissed from job opportunities in the future because of it. Although I know he , Allah is the sole provider, but this fear is real in me. The Fear of Disobeying Allah: My biggest fear is that if I remove the niqab, Allah might punish me by locking away the very opportunities and success I am searching for. The Trap of Regret & Judgment: I am paralyzed by fear either way. If I remove it, I fear regret and losing rewards especially if i see other sisters wearing it; if I keep it, I fear I will regret missing out on my potential. I also worry about societal criticism from people saying I "dumped" it. Fear of Appearance & Exposure: I struggle with deep insecurities about my looks and feel the niqab is meant for beautiful faces. I fear that if I uncover for the first time, people—especially for marriage proposals or identity/security checks—will be shocked or think I am not pretty. I feel it is mentally healthier to let people see my face every day and get used to it, rather than face the anxiety of shocking them later. Also, other hardships included, such as performing wudu or eating or drinking in public places. Am I sinful if I remove the niqab under these circumstances to focus on my university growth and peace of mind? Will Allah withhold blessings and opportunities from me if I return to wearing just the standard hijab? Barakallahu feek for your time and guidance.
