Is the Hadith Method of Purification Still Necessary When Modern Cleaning Methods Are More Effective?
The hadith instructs washing a vessel seven times, including with soil, after a dog has licked it. My question is: how do we know that the use of soil was intended as a permanent ritual requirement rather than simply an effective method of cleaning available at that time?
Today we have soap, detergents and disinfectants that can remove contamination more effectively and reliably than soil. If the purpose of the instruction was cleanliness and removal of impurity, why wouldn't a modern cleaning method that achieves that purpose more effectively be sufficient?
Is there evidence from the Prophet himself that the specific method—seven washes and soil—must remain unchanged even when better cleaning methods become available?
