Inter religious Marriage

Qur’an 5:5 permits Muslim men to marry chaste women from the People of the Book. How can this be reconciled with Qur’an 2:221, which explicitly prohibits marriage to polytheists? Especially considering that many Christians today hold beliefs that could be regarded as polytheistic.
