how to earn ilm

I want to earn ilm as it is the best deed after fard ones,but i am not from any madrasa or islmaic school nor i can get access, and i am still a student so travelling for knowledge is also impossible. while self studying some people say it is often misleading and not effective. inn this case what should i do to seek knowledge as i really long for being a scholar and dont want to be left out of the immense reward of knowledge kindly inform me what should i do to earn ilm and also inform if i can self study and if then how to do itplease clear me upmay Allah bless you
