emotional concerns of women in islam
Allah created women with emotions such as jealousy, possessiveness, attachment, and emotional sensitivity. Since Allah knows how deeply a wife may be hurt by her husband marrying another woman, why did He allow polygamy despite knowing that it can cause emotional pain to the first wife? I also struggle with the descriptions of men having multiple wives/companions and hoor al-‘ayn in Jannah. As a woman, the thought of my husband having other companions in Paradise makes me uncomfortable and sometimes affects my faith. I know Allah is perfectly Just and that there will be no sadness or jealousy in Jannah, but I find it difficult to understand emotionally why these rewards are described in this way. Are these feelings sinful, and how should a Muslim woman understand and overcome such thoughts without feeling that she is questioning Allah’s wisdom or becoming weak in faith?
